Laptop turns off after sleep, says cmos checksum is invalid on startup

The "CMOS checksum is invalid" error has been there since I bought the laptop in 2016, called hp customer support they said it's nothing to worry about but if it recurs then I should go to the service center, it did used to happen still but it was occasional . 1 1/2 years forward and I managed to fry my internal HDD, got a new one, installed windows and everything was working smooth except one thing, whenever I put the laptop to sleep for too long (6-8 hours) it shuts down and when I try to start it the power button would blink once and then nothing so I have to press it again to switch it on only to be greeted by the CMOS error. However, prior to my HDD problem, everything was great, my laptop would sleep for 40+ hours and still be fine. I've checked the power management options and everything, it's all fine. Please help as I'm used to putting my laptop on sleep to save the 2-3 minutes it takes to boot up

As I understand, your notebook gives CMOS error message and also notebook shuts down after being in sleep mode,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps? 

 

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue: 

  1. Open the Keyboard control panel item, as described in Method 1.
  2. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Change Settings button
    Note This step requires Administrator access
  4. Click the Power Management tab, and then verify that the Allow this device to wake the computer is enabled.
  5. Click OK, and then click OK again.

BIOS Default: 

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

If the computer restarts normally and the error message does not display, you are done. If the error message displays proceed to the next step.

Thank you very much!! I am so sorry for the late reply, for some reason the notification email was put in my spam folder in Gmail. I tried the keyboard troubleshooting but that didn't help, tried the BIOS default one and my system restarted normally!! I'll update you if it recurs or if it's fixed, I am grateful monsieur 🙂

Hello once again!! The problem has started recurring now after working all smooth for about 35-40 days. I'll try updating the BIOS now and revert back to you.
