HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000 (2P6B3AV)

Hello. My laptop won't turn on at all and I've spent hours trying everything Google has suggested. I'm not a tech person, so I really don't know where to go from here. The power button lights up green and I can hear what I think is a fan working. There's also a small amount of heat coming from the bottom, but that's it as far as signs of life. Not even the keyboard lights up. I've tried all the key combinations for bios, safe mode etc, I've tried unplugging it, holding the power button then plugging it back in and turning it on, I've tried connecting it to another monitor via HDMI, but it does nothing. The screen just stays black. For a little bit of context, I used it for 3 or 4 months when it was initially bought, mainly for YouTube but also a bit of gaming. I had a logitech g920 racing wheel which I would often connect to play games like City car driving. I'd play it on my TV via HDMI, but as far as I can remember, one day it just turned off and has been facing this issue since. I haven't tried it in close to a year, but now I need to use it for work and I'm desperate to find a solution. My warranty has ran out so I don't think I could send it to HP to fix. Any helo on this subject would be massively appreciated.

Edit: I took the back off and it seemed as though only 1 out of the 2 fans were spinning. I'm not sure what this means but figured it may be helpful.

Hi @Robbo2002,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Pavilion 15.6 Inch Gaming Laptop PC 15 won't turn on, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Check the Power Source:

  • Make sure the laptop is properly connected to a power source. Ensure that the power adapter is plugged into both the laptop and a working power outlet. Also, check if there's any damage to the power cord or adapter.

Charge the Battery:

  • If your laptop has a removable battery, ensure that it's properly seated in its compartment. Plug in the laptop and allow it to charge for at least 30 minutes, even if there are no immediate signs of life. Sometimes, a completely drained battery can prevent the laptop from turning on.

Try a Different Outlet:

  • In case you're using a power strip or surge protector, try plugging the laptop directly into a wall outlet to rule out any issues with the power source.

Check for Indicator Lights:

  • Look for any indicator lights on the laptop. Typically, there should be a power indicator light that turns on when the laptop is receiving power. If you see this light, it indicates that power is reaching the laptop.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • If the laptop still doesn't turn on, perform a hard reset by following these steps: a. Disconnect the laptop from the power source. b. If possible, remove the laptop battery. c. Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. d. Reconnect the battery (if removed) and plug in the power adapter. e. Try turning on the laptop.

Check for Display Issues:

  • If the laptop appears to turn on (lights and fans are working), but there's no display, connect it to an external monitor to see if the laptop's screen is the issue. If the external monitor works, it could indicate a problem with the laptop's display or graphics.

Check for Loose Connections:

  • Ensure that all cables and components, such as RAM and storage drives, are properly seated inside the laptop. Loose connections can prevent it from starting.

Listen for Beep Codes or Error Messages:

  • Sometimes, the laptop may emit beep codes or display error messages during startup. These codes can provide valuable information about the nature of the problem. Refer to your laptop's manual or HP's support documentation to interpret these codes.

Remember to backup important data regularly to prevent data loss in case of hardware issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
