Lock screen doesn't recognize pin,and won't set up new one.

Hi I am taking over my son's laptop since he doesn't use it and mine died.  I thought I had gotten it all set up, changing the lock code adding my profile to it. But I  left it on for an hour and came back. The lock screen doesn't recognize my pin,or my son's pin. I tried to reset it...still doesn't work.

What can I do,I  am an online student and can't get on to do my schooling.
