Hi @Killen2mikiya,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop keyboard seems to be locked or unresponsive, and you've tried the standard methods like holding the Fn key, Shift key, or both without success, here are a few more troubleshooting steps to try.
Check for Sticky Keys
- If Sticky Keys are enabled, it can cause issues with key inputs. To check:
- Press the Windows key, type Ease of Access settings, and open it.
- Go to Keyboard and make sure that Sticky Keys is turned off.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Power down the laptop completely.
- Disconnect the charger and remove the battery if possible.
- Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and charger, then power it back on.
Update Keyboard Drivers
- Press Windows + X and choose Device Manager.
- Expand the Keyboards section.
- Right-click the keyboard and select Update driver.
- Follow the instructions to check for updated drivers.
Uninstall Keyboard Drivers
- Sometimes uninstalling and restarting the laptop helps:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand the Keyboards section.
- Right-click the keyboard and choose Uninstall device.
- Restart the laptop to let Windows reinstall the drivers automatically.
Test with an External Keyboard
- Plug in an external USB keyboard to see if the issue persists. If the external keyboard works, this could indicate a hardware issue with the built-in keyboard.

Check for BIOS Update
- Sometimes a BIOS update may fix keyboard functionality:
- Check HP’s support page for your laptop model.
- Download and install any available BIOS updates.
Check Keyboard Layout
- Ensure that the correct keyboard layout is selected:
- Open Settings > Time & Language > Language.
- Under Preferred languages, select your language, then click Options.
- Ensure that the correct keyboard layout is selected.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
