hello, im just get happy when use this old machine(actually typing here from it).
My PC was without floppy disk drive, so that was task to find drive and than disk. I was really surprised when one of my mates have a FDD, but without disk and another saved one disk for many years and it is still working, that's just great.

I still have installed my old pentium 4 2,8 Northwood and waiting to arrive new one hyperthread.
My main question is how do i exactly know that microcode update was success?
Computer booted from floppy disk than some time * _ * blinked and a diode on fdd also blinked and after that win xp started to boot.

Hi:

When you booted from the floppy disk that was created, it should have shown the installed microcode and then it should have asked you if you wanted to update the microcode to a newer version.

You should have had to enter a yes or no prompt to update the microcode.

there were no such thing, ok i will try once more

Hi:

Unfortunately, I don't know what the problem could be.

Many years ago (more than 10), I updated the microcode on 4 HP d530's and when I ran the microcode update on XP, it created the bootable floppy disk and when I booted from it, it showed the currently installed Microcode version on the PC and asked me if I wanted to update the microcode to the new version on the FDD.

I didn't get any errors.

thank you.
i formatted floppy(not quick format) and created bootable disk again but i get same error.

will see what can i do try to look at bios settings

I have tried to create ms-dos boot disk on this floppy and i started ok.
PC just writes that this is non-system disk and denies to launch it, on floppy i have this files.

Unfortunately, I don't know what the problem could be.

I don't have any PC's with XP anymore and you can't create the bootable floppy disk when running a newer OS when you run the HP microcode update file.

All I can say is that it is unlikely the microcode is getting updated.

Hello! I did it! I flashed microcode!
I dont know what exactly was the problem i think that diskette was damaged because of age.
What helped: i run in wix xp A:format>ms-dos boot diskette then deleted all files and just copied all files from extracted image to floppy and it started!!
My pentium hyper thread must arrive next tuesday:)
Thank you very much for help, have a good day:)

You're very welcome.

Glad you were able to update the microcode.
