OMEN 40L GT21-1009nl Desktop Gaming
Microsoft Windows 11

Goodmorning HP Community!
🙂
My name is Edoardo; I'm from Italy.

Two months ago, I bought my brand-new OMEN 40L GT21-1009nl Desktop Gaming, and... some problems have already occurred (which entailed several "hard-shutdowns" from the main power button)!! 😞

I try to be as brief as possible:
In three isolated occasions, after turning on the PC, nothing appeared on the monitor – even better, the monitor itself has not even been detected. During these three times, what occurred is that, after pressing the power button, every fan regularly started, as well as the CPU lights and the RAM lights; but a significative anomalous thing that I noticed, besides the non-detection of the monitor, is that the main cooling fan kept on spinning at its maximum speed (whithout decreasing its velocity as it normally does everytime the PC regularly starts).

The fan stayed in that condition for several minutes; since the monitor was not detected, I was obliged to keep pressed the power button to shut down the computer. When I turned it on again, same situation of before (no video output, and fan speed not decreasing); so, I disconnected the main cable, and I kept pressed for 20/30 seconds the main button in order to discharge the condensers. After doing this, the PC regularly started – and so it did for other 20/30 startings, along several days, working flawlessly...

It seems that is an intermittent problem!!

I also tell you that I performed a COMPLETE diagnostic in the UEFI environment, as well as the BIOS updating... and everything went well.

Hence, I don't really know what is going wrong with this (not cheapy at all) PC.

Any help from the experts will be appreciated...

Thank you in advance,
Ciao everyone.

Hi @Edoardo_italy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

Given the symptoms you're describing with your OMEN 40L GT21-1009nl desktop, such as the fans spinning at maximum speed and the monitor not detecting the signal, here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Power Cycle Your PC:

  • Complete Power Cycle:
    1. Shut down your PC completely.
    2. Unplug the power cord from the wall and from the back of the PC.
    3. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
    4. Plug everything back in and try powering on the PC.

2. Check Hardware Connections:

Inspect Internal Components:

  1. Open the case and check all internal connections, including power cables to the motherboard, graphics card, and any other components.
  2. Ensure the RAM modules and GPU are securely seated in their slots.

Check Monitor Connections:

  1. Verify that the monitor cable is securely connected to both the monitor and the GPU.
  2. Try using a different cable or port on the GPU, if available.

3. Reseat or Replace Components:

Reseat RAM and GPU:

  1. Power off the PC and unplug it.
  2. Remove the RAM sticks and GPU, then reseat them firmly in their slots.
  3. Reconnect all cables and power on the PC.

Test with Minimal Components:

  1. Disconnect all peripherals and remove any additional hardware (e.g., extra drives, cards).
  2. Try booting with only essential components (CPU, one stick of RAM, and GPU).

4. Check for BIOS/UEFI Issues:

Reset BIOS/UEFI to Default Settings:

  1. Enter BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing Esc, F2, F10, or Del during startup).
  2. Look for an option to Load Default Settings or Reset to Default and apply it.

Verify BIOS Update:

  1. Ensure the BIOS update was successful and compatible with your system. Sometimes, BIOS updates can cause issues if not done correctly.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Edoardo_italy,

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Monitor POST (Power-On Self-Test):

  • Listen for Beep Codes:
    1. If your motherboard has a speaker, listen for beep codes that can indicate hardware issues. Refer to your motherboard manual for beep code meanings.

6. Check for Overheating:

  • Inspect Cooling System:
    1. Ensure that the cooling system, including the CPU cooler and fans, is properly installed and functioning.
    2. Clean any dust from the cooling components to ensure proper airflow.

7. Test with Different Monitor/Display:

  • Try Another Monitor:
    1. Connect your PC to a different monitor to rule out issues with the current monitor.
    2. Test with different input sources on the monitor (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort).

8. Run Diagnostics:

  • Use HP Diagnostics:
    1. If you can access the UEFI/BIOS environment, run any available hardware diagnostics to check for component issues.

9. Check for Power Supply Issues:

  • Test the Power Supply:
    1. Ensure the power supply is providing adequate power to all components. If you have a spare power supply, consider testing with that.

By systematically following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with your OMEN 40L GT21-1009nl desktop. If the problem persists despite your efforts, contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Goodmorning Elohi_NR,

Thank you for your support. 😊

First of all, it goes without saying that, during every anomalous situation I described, I tried all the "obvious" things you (rightly) mentioned, such as verifying all the video output, cables, try with a different monitor, etc etc.

But the monitor looked like it does when there's no cable connected...

Anyhow, another thing that I performed thank by your advice, is unplacing and replacing the RAM sticks, in the hope there was such bad contacts amongst the pins.

It could also be that the problem will never occur again (I hope so), SINCE IT HAPPEND ONLY DURING THREE STARTINGS OUT OF, SAY, A HUNDRED (≈3%)! It is a very "intermittent" problem.

But, since the PC is brand-new, I don't like this... 😐

The thing I'd like to try, the next time it'll occur, it's listening for beep sounds from the motherboard (what you mentioned at point 5). I also read that some motherboards have lights in order to indicate the type of anomaly.
Do you know if my PC model has something like that (or some "physical diagnostic" I could see during the missed starting of the PC)? In the user manual it doesn't seem it exists on my PC...

Greetings,

Have a nice day
