HP Pavilion Desktop - 500-424

I purchased this back in 2015 and started  with windows 8.1 then upgraded to windows 10.

I was frustrated with windows 10 and changed to another desktop with windows 7 pro and I used that unit for a few years and the HP pavillion just languished in the corner without power for about 3 years.

I am now trying to go back to the HP and all I get when trying to boot up is that I have a hard disc error code 3F1 and if I try to use the F2 diagnostics it says that the Smart Check is not installed. When I exit the diagnostics I get a black screen with error message "no boot disc has been detected or the disc has failed."

I have been able to get to the F10 diagnostics and tried to reset the BIOS to factory settings but that has not yielded any result either.

I have not yet done a windows 10 USB boot device but I was thinking that might be my next option.

Any help would be appreciated.,

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting a hard disk error, I am glad to assist you.

"Hard disk [3F0]" indicates that the Hard Disk Drive has failed and that requires a replacement to resolve the issue

This might require one on one interaction to fix the issue.

I am sending you a private message with the steps to talk to HP support.

Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely.

If this helps, please mark the public post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.
