I left my computer off and uncharged for a month and it had weird problems starting up when I plugged it in and opened it up. I reset it completely and decided to plug it in overnight. I saw the orange light on the side light up, so I knew it was charging. I woke up in the morning to find it fully charged but not holding it or showing any sign of attempted charge. Since then, I have done all possible updates to this computed and doubt that it is a problem with the charger.

Thank you for your help, but it turned out it was a chargers fault. The center of it was slightly bent, and I missed it. We ended up buying a new one and it worked.

Hi @ToToast_OMEN,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for taking the time to explain what's happening. I can imagine how confusing this must be, especially when you can physically see the orange charging light come on and the notebook charges overnight, but then it seems to stop behaving normally once it's powered up.
Since the notebook sat unused and unplugged for about a month before this started, I'd like to rule out a firmware issue first. Could you try an HP BIOS Recovery (Restore) and let me know if you notice any change afterwards?
- Turn the notebook off completely.
- Plug in the charger.
- Press and hold Windows + B.
- While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for a few seconds, then release the Power button while continuing to hold Windows + B.
- If the BIOS Recovery screen appears, follow the prompts and allow it to complete.
While testing, I'd also like to know what you see and hear when you power the notebook on:
- Does the screen come up normally every time?
- Do you hear the fan spinning or feel warmth from the notebook when it starts?
- Do you see any lights flashing on the keyboard, such as the Caps Lock or Num Lock key?
- When you plug the charger in while the notebook is running, does the charging light stay on, change color, or go out?
If the screen ever remains dark, please try connecting the notebook to an external monitor or TV and see if an image appears there. That can help us determine whether the system is running normally in the background.
Also, could you share the exact HP model or product number of the notebook? That will help me look into any model-specific charging or firmware considerations.
Looking forward to hearing back from you with what you observe. Those little details about the lights, sounds, and behavior can tell us quite a bit about where the issue is coming from.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @ToToast_OMEN,
Thank you for the update and for sharing the image.
I'm glad you were able to identify the root cause of the issue. Looking at your description, a slightly bent center pin in the charger connector can definitely cause charging and power-related problems, and it's an easy thing to miss during troubleshooting.
It's great to hear that replacing the charger resolved the issue and that the system is working normally again. Thank you as well for taking the time to come back and share the solution; it may help others who run into a similar problem in the future.
You did an excellent job tracking it down on your own, and I'm happy to hear the fix was as straightforward as replacing the charger.
If you need any assistance with your HP device in the future, please keep us posted. We're always happy to help.
Have a wonderful day and enjoy your now fully working system! 😊
