DO NOT update the BIOS to version 2.33 unless you have W10 installed in UEFI mode.

If W10 is installed in legacy mode, then you will have to wait over 2 minutes for the PC to restart from a warm boot.

The newest BIOS version you can update to and not have that happen is v 2.28.

I would update the BIOS using the F10 BIOS setup flash method as follows:

Get a reliable USB flash drive.  Format it with the FAT 32 file system.

Download and run the BIOS file you want to update to.  An information page will open.

Follow the instructions for the F10 Flash System ROM method.

Click on the View Contents of the DOS Flash Folder.

Copy the file contents of the DOS flash folder to your USB flash drive.

Restart the PC.  Tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F10 system setup option.

On the file tab, select the Flash System ROM command.

Select the USB flash drive.

The PC should now see the BIOS update files on the flash drive.

Follow the on-screen instructions to update the BIOS.

you wouldn't happen to have the link to the 2.28 bios for my machine? i looked for it and all it gives me is the 2.33

HP Recommended

I do, and you have it too.

Here's how to find it:

Click to expand the Revision History section at the link below:

HP Compaq 8200 Elite Convertible Minitower PC Software and Driver Details

First you will see all of the release notes for all of the available BIOS updates.

When you get past those, you will find the links to download all of the available BIOS versions, one of those being 2.28.

Tks for that info Paul...my next question will any of those updates give me the UEFI settings in my bios?  i've tried all the quick fixes to bring up the uefi menu but nothing worked...when i when into sysinfo the bios reads UEFI so i know im installed drives are GPT.
sysinfo.PNG

im think i need to install either 2,27 2,28 or 2.29  as it has uefi security stuff which im missing. I was also looking at the revison history into the version i have which is 2.06 and it states once installed no other bios can be installed but not sure.

You're very welcome.

I don't understand your question about the updates adding UEFI security stuff.

I never looked into any of the advanced settings in the BIOS.

All I wanted to do was to make the PC as close as I could to comply with the W11 hardware requirements (which it fails to do on 3 of the 4 major requirements.

The processor is not supported.  It does not have a TPM 2.0 security device, and it does not support Secure boot.

But it does support UEFI which is automatically enabled if you install Windows in UEFI mode.

I have W11 installed in UEFI mode in my two 8200 Elite CMT's with BIOS v 02.28.

I found that for some reason, the only way I can boot the USB installation flash drive to install Windows in UEFI mode is to plug the W11 installation flash drive into the second USB port from the top (with the PC in its vertical position).

I used the free Rufus utility to transfer the W10/W11 ISO file to the USB flash drive so that it is bootable.

If you are interested in installing W11, watch this video:

Yeah i tried a fresh install windows 10 using rufus and making a uefi boot but it would not install as it could not change the boot configuration for some reason. i used diskpart to clean the drive then i converted the drive to GPT then i restarted and booted computer from usb and it stopped saying couldn't change boot configuration. I have an I5 2400 atm but i could upgrade to something compatible but im just gonna use bypass hardware checks somehow

HP Recommended

The video I posted tells you how to use Rufus to bypass the hardware checks so you can boot from it and do a clean install of W11.

Then if that works, this video is the one I use to do in-place upgrades from W10>W11 or from the build of W11 currently installed to the next one Microsoft releases.

I downloaded and tried to install Ver 2.28 but all i get is it runns for a few seconds and returns to same screen and it won't update

It doesn't seem like you followed the instructions I gave you yesterday to update the BIOS.

You don't update the BIOS in Windows.
