My HP 24 all-in-one is frozen. I can log in, once it gets me to the desktop that's as far as it goes. The background is there like normal, but no icons or anything else. I have restarted it, unplugged everything but the keyboard and mouse, but nothing helps. The tech guy from our school came and looked at it and he said he thinks it is stuck in and update or something? School starts soon and as a teacher I need to be able to use my computer. Not sure what to do??

@j32l -- when you power-on your HP computer, is there an option to launch the HP Hardware Diagnostics?
If so, select the "short DST" test of the disk-drive --> "short [1 or 2 minutes]] Drive Status Test".
if it fails, then do NOT run the "long DST" -- that may consume most of the residual "life" of the disk-drive, making it impossible for you to copy your personal files.
Can you use CTRL-ALT-DELETE to open the Windows "Task Manager" ? Switch to its "Performance" tab, to see if your CPU or disk-drive is very busy -- compare to the "dashboard gauges" in your automobile.
If you are desperate, remove the current disk-drive, purchase a new disk-drive, connect it, and install Windows onto it, to give you a working computer.
