@Jazmine74, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand how concerning it can be when your computer locks up and displays a message asking you to call an unknown number. You're absolutely right to be cautious, this is very likely a tech support scam.

Do NOT Call the Number

Scammers often use fake pop-ups or lock screens to trick users into calling them. They may claim to be from HP, Microsoft, or another trusted company, but their goal is to gain access to your computer or personal information.

Here's What You Can Do to Fix It:

Step 1: Try to Close the Browser or App

If the message appeared in a web browser:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Find your browser (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox) in the list.
  3. Select it and click End Task.

Then restart your browser. If it asks to restore the previous session, decline.

Step 2: Restart Your Computer in Safe Mode (if it's completely frozen)

If your PC is unresponsive:

  1. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to force a shutdown.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly to enter Recovery Mode.
  3. Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  4. After restart, press 4 to boot into Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, run a full antivirus scan.

Step 3: Run a Security Scan

Use Windows Defender or a trusted antivirus to scan your system:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
  • Click Quick Scan or Full Scan

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern. Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
