My computer will get to the omen screen, swirl for a second, then freeze and go to a black screen

Greetings @Jason315

Welcome to the HP Forum.

You have not provided a specific HP PC Product Number.

Providing a product number is good to do.

The swirling circle which goes to a black screen usually means your PC is doing a successful POST but the PC can't load Windows.

This symptom may also suggest Windows bootloader corruption.

However, a hardware problem is still an item of interest.

Check your PC's hardware using HP Diagnostics as follows:

Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key.

Select "F2". Run extensive system and component tests to confirm: a drive problem, a memory problem, or other component problem.

Get back to the Forum with your PC's hardware test results.

Fixing Windows bootloader corruption is a hit and miss proposition.

You may have to backup system drive data. Then do HP Cloud Recovery or a clean Windows installation.

Regards
