My pc shows "ACPI BIOS ERROR" when booting, takes a hard boot to start. Frequently crashes and nothing ive tried has helped. Ive done multiple searches using CMD but theyve come back blank. Ive tried updating BIOS and my other drivers. Ive also checked the memory of windows and it said there were problems with the memory.

Hi @Konzz,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
An "ACPI BIOS ERROR" typically indicates a problem with the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) settings in your BIOS, or possibly an issue with the hardware or system drivers. Given that your memory check indicated problems, addressing the memory issues is a good starting point. Here's a structured approach to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Address Memory Issues
- Reseat RAM Modules: Power off your PC, unplug it, and carefully remove and reinsert the RAM modules to ensure they're properly seated.
- Test RAM Modules: If you have multiple RAM sticks, try booting the PC with one stick at a time to identify if a particular module is faulty.
- Replace RAM: If a specific RAM stick is found to be problematic, consider replacing it.
BIOS Settings and Update
- Reset BIOS to Default: Enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, DEL, or ESC during startup) and reset to default settings. Look for an option like "Load Default Settings" or "Load Optimized Defaults."
- Re-update BIOS: Ensure that you have the latest BIOS version installed. Visit the HP support website, download the latest BIOS update for your model, and follow the instructions carefully to update it again.
Check and Update Drivers
- Device Manager: Open Device Manager (right-click on Start > Device Manager) and check for any devices with warning icons. Update or reinstall drivers for those devices.
- HP Support Assistant: Use HP Support Assistant to automatically detect and install any missing or outdated drivers.
Run Hardware Diagnostics
- HP Diagnostics Tool: Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to perform extensive tests on your hardware components. This can be accessed by restarting your PC and pressing F2 during boot to enter the diagnostics menu.
Check for Windows Corruption
- System File Checker (SFC): Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run sfc /scannow to check for and repair corrupted system files.
- DISM Tool: In Command Prompt, run the following commands to repair the Windows image:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Review Recent Changes
- Uninstall Recent Updates: If the issue started after a recent Windows update, consider uninstalling the update to see if that resolves the problem.
- Remove New Hardware: If you recently installed new hardware, try removing it to see if the error persists.
Consider a Clean Install
- If the above steps do not resolve the issue, a clean install of Windows might be necessary. Ensure you back up important data before proceeding.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify and hopefully resolve the "ACPI BIOS ERROR" and the associated crashes.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
