Hi @Sliz246,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP desktop won't start after a power outage, even though the fan comes on, it suggests the system is getting power but not completing POST (Power-On Self-Test). Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot:
1. Perform a Hard Reset
This clears residual power and can fix startup issues:
- Turn off the PC and unplug the power cord.
- Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
- Plug it back in and try to power on.
2. Check for Beep Codes or LED Blink Patterns
HP desktops often use beep codes or blinking LEDs to indicate hardware issues:
- Count the number of beeps or blinks.
- Refer to HP’s diagnostic code guide to interpret them.
Let me know if you hear any beeps or see blinking lights.
3. Disconnect External Devices
Remove all USB devices, printers, and external drives.
- Try booting with only the monitor, keyboard, and mouse connected.
4. Reseat RAM and Internal Cables
If you're comfortable opening the case:
- Power off and unplug the PC.
- Open the case and reseat the RAM sticks (remove and reinsert them).
- Check all internal cables (especially to the hard drive and motherboard).
5. Try a Different Power Outlet or Power Supply
Even with a surge protector, the power supply unit (PSU) may have been damaged:
- Try a different wall outlet.
- If possible, test with another PSU.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
