HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-eh1000 (2H5A6AV)

I currently have had an issue with this for a long time now, more than 3 months I believe, solved it once, then the next day, same problem but worse.

When I boot my computer it goes into a infinite boot loop and ends with a blue screen with error code "Driver_PNP_watchdogs"

Windows recovery (F11) goes into an error message 0xc0000225 with "a required device isn't connected or can't be accessed" and recovery is unable to open.

I have tried to download a windows media installation, same "driver_pnp_watchdogs"

I tried to do a BIOS recovery and it still gave the same error.

I thought my computer was basically windowless, so I decided to put linuxmint on it, when I first did it, and then closed out windows started up.

NOW when doing this same thing, linux(any I have tried) gives a small error message, boots up, and keyboard + mouse do not work unless plugged in through USB, and does not fix windows when left.

This error has been a big problem with me, since I use this laptop for school mostly and really need a fix, anything can help, please before messaging understand I cannot access windows recovery, already tried installing windows media, and BIOS recovery.

Hi @Mortal361,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're dealing with a persistent and complex issue with your HP Pavilion laptop. Here's a structured approach to tackle the "DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOGS" error and the recovery problems:

1. Check for Hardware Issues

  • Inspect Physical Connections: Ensure that all internal components (RAM, SSD/HDD) are properly connected. Sometimes, loose connections can cause boot issues.
  • Test Hardware: Use tools like MemTest86 to check for memory issues and check your hard drive or SSD using manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

2. BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • Reset BIOS/UEFI: Sometimes a BIOS reset to default settings can help. You mentioned trying BIOS recovery, but ensure you have done a complete reset to default settings.
  • Check Boot Order: Ensure that your boot order is correctly set to prioritize your hard drive/SSD over other devices.

3. Windows Installation Media

  • Recreate Installation Media: Sometimes, using a different USB stick or re-downloading the Windows ISO can resolve issues. Use the Windows Media Creation Tool to create the installation media.
  • Try Different USB Ports: Use different USB ports when booting from the installation media, as sometimes USB ports can be problematic.

4. Driver Issues

  • Safe Mode with Networking: If you can get into Safe Mode, try updating or rolling back drivers. You mentioned issues with Linux, but try booting into Safe Mode from the Windows installation media if possible.
  • Driver Verifier Tool: This tool can help identify problematic drivers. However, it may be hard to run if Windows isn't booting.

5. Linux Troubleshooting

  • Update Linux Drivers: Ensure that all drivers in Linux are up-to-date. Sometimes a kernel update or additional drivers can resolve hardware issues.
  • Test Different Linux Distributions: Sometimes, using different Linux distributions can offer better hardware compatibility.

6. Perform a Clean Install

  • Backup Important Data: If possible, backup your important files before proceeding.
  • Clean Install Windows: If you can't repair the current installation, consider performing a clean install of Windows. This will erase everything on your hard drive, so it’s a last resort.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
