My laptop ran out of battery and since then has not wanted to bootup whenever I turn it on. I know I can turn the machine on as the power button light will activate and the fans within the computer will start to whirr and the screen lights up however it remains black.
I've tried to access the BIOS menu via pressing F10 upon switch on however I am left only with a message in the bottom left corner saying "F10...BIOS setup menu" with no menu to be seen. I have also tried booting in safe mode by pressing F4 on switch on but nothing happens.
Any suggestions at all would be wonderful, thanks.

Hi @Drumroll,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there might be a few potential issues with your HP ENVY X360 Laptop - 15, such as a problem with the display, BIOS, or other hardware. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue.
Power Reset
- Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
- Unplug the power adapter from the laptop.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter and try turning on the laptop again.
Hard Reset
- Turn off the laptop if it’s on.
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if possible).
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge.
- Reinsert the battery (if it was removed) and reconnect the power adapter.
- Turn on the laptop.
Try an External Monitor
If your screen is staying black but the laptop seems to power on:
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor using an HDMI or VGA cable.
- Turn on the external monitor and make sure it's set to the correct input.
- Turn on your laptop and check if the external monitor displays anything. This can help determine if the issue is with the laptop's screen or something else.
BIOS Reset
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press and hold the Windows key + B, then press and hold the Power button for about 2-3 seconds, then release the Power button but continue holding the Windows + B keys.
- If the BIOS recovery menu appears, follow the instructions to reset the BIOS.

Clear CMOS
If the above steps don't work, you might need to clear the CMOS:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery.
- Open the laptop (this might require a screwdriver) and locate the CMOS battery (a small round battery on the motherboard).
- Remove the CMOS battery for about 5 minutes and then reinsert it.
- Reassemble the laptop, reconnect the battery and power adapter, and try turning it on again.
Advanced Steps
If none of the above steps work, you might need to consider more advanced troubleshooting:
- Check for loose connections inside the laptop if you're comfortable opening it up.
- Test the RAM by reseating it or trying a different RAM module if you have one available.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
