Hi @HD104

  1. Check Physical Connections:

    • Ensure that all internal connections, especially the hard drive's SATA and power cables, are securely connected. If you're comfortable opening the computer case, power off your PC and check these connections.
  2. BIOS/UEFI Settings:

    • Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing the appropriate key (usually "F2," "F10," "F12," "DEL," or "ESC") during the startup.
    • Check if the hard drive is detected in the BIOS/UEFI. If it's not listed, the drive might be disconnected or have failed.
  3. Set the Correct Boot Order:

    • In the BIOS/UEFI, ensure that the boot order is set to prioritize the hard drive with the operating system. The hard drive should be set as the first boot device.
  4. Run HP's UEFI Diagnostics:

    • Most HP computers have built-in hardware diagnostics. Reboot your computer and press "ESC," then "F2" to run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
    • Run a "Quick Test" or "Comprehensive Test" on the hard drive to check for hardware failures.
  5. Reset BIOS to Default Settings:

    • In your BIOS/UEFI, reset all settings to their default or optimized defaults to ensure no inadvertent changes are causing the issue.
  6. Check for the Operating System:

    • If the hard drive is detected, but the operating system isn't loading, there might be an issue with the OS installation. You can try booting from a Windows installation DVD or USB and select "Repair your computer."
  7. Check for Recovery Options:

    • If your computer has a recovery partition, you may be able to initiate a system restore to a previous point, or do a factory reset using the recovery options.
  8. Consider Hard Drive Replacement:

    • If diagnostics suggest that the hard drive has failed, it may need to be replaced. Data recovery might be possible through third-party services if the data is critical.
