Hi,
I just bought a 2nd hand EliteBook (looks as new), with win10pro, all fine but I need to install Linux on it (Ubuntu/Fedora or similar), and can't because it's got an admin password set in the BIOS which nobody knows. So I can't even choose to boot from a usb stick.
Can somebody help me, please?
It's covered by an HP Care Pack until December 2022
Thanks,
Dolores

Hello
we cannot help you here, regarding the password
For a user account
the only option, if you can't, is to use factory recovery, which is annoying, as it can lead to data loss
You will need to contact a computer person who, if honest, will ask for proof that the computer is yours.
Change or reset the computer password in Windows 10
What if I forget my password? Windows 7
How to Change or Reset Password (Windows 😎
Reset a forgotten Microsoft account password
if it is for the bios, there is nothing that can be done for you here
Forgotten or Lost BIOS Password
a system board replacement is required, and additional customer costs apply
>you will need to contact an Hp repair center or other computer service repair
Locate a service center near you
if still under warranty, you can try contacting hp directly
but there will probably be additional costs
Although it may be available elsewhere
It is not normal to give information to bypass a password on a public platform
anyone can abuse this, to hack into a computer, use a stolen computer, or steal someone's information

Hi everyone,
It's a pity, but I will have to return the notebook.
It's a shame that a working computer like this might end up in the dumpster, only because of a missing password.
I do have proof of ownership, but HP seems to be only interested in selling new stuff and support contracts, and deny support even for fairly recent and expensive *pro* hardware like this; I contacted the local HP phone tech support twice, but they were not interested in whether I am the legitimate owner, they both only asked if I called from a company with a support contract.
I still own 3 older EliteBooks, and am very happy with them. The're old enough that you can reset all the BIOS settings the old way, CMOS battery and all that, not depending on its manufacturer forever.
We're seeing this trend all over the place, not only in the Computer business, but also in modern cars and IoT devices. If the manufacturer goes out of business or just doesn't want to support some of its products any more, you, the customer, are stuck, and learn the lesson that you pay for it but are *not* the owner. No, thanks!
What a Shame.
