HP Elitedesk 800 G2 SFF
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently updated my BIOS to version 2.60 (latest version) and installed a new CPU (i7-7700 4.2 GHz), everything works with my old CPU even after the BIOS update but with the new CPU my PC doesn't show a display or power my keyboard and mouse lights. I'm using an HP Elitedesk 800 G2 SFF with upgraded RAM,  SSD storage, and a new GPU.

Hi @LinkBC

Welcome to the HP Forum.

You are running the latest BIOS for the PC.

The CPU socket supports a 7700.

My guess is: the BIOS only supports Intel 6th gen CPUs or you have a bad 7700 CPU.

Can you test the 7700 in a different PC. Or have a local PC Tech check the 7700.

Regards

Thank you! Would you have any idea how to tell what generation of processors my BIOS can handle? Or do you know for sure that 6th generation processors are the latest it can do?

Hi @LinkBC

My pleasure.

Please refer to the Maintenance and Service Guide for your PC.

Factory CPU options are:

Processors (include replacement thermal material; not illustrated)
Intel Core i7-6700 processor
Intel Core i5-6600 processor
Intel Core i5-6500 processor

The PC shipped with an Intel 6000 series CPU. The Intel CPU socket on your MB may support Intel 6000 series and Intel 7000 CPUs only when the BIOS provides Intel 7000 series CPU support.

HP would have to add Intel 7000 CPU support in the BIOS.

You have the latest HP BIOS.

I can only conclude the 7700 may have a problem or the latest HP BIOS does not support Intel 7000 series CPUs.

Regards
