My four-month old HP won't start up and support says it will take SIX WEEKS to get the part.  They refuse to give me a new computer or a refund.  They now have the computer.  Help.

@notimpressed123,

I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with that, especially on a computer that's only four months old.

If the desktop is already at an HP repair depot, the repair timeline is often dependent on parts availability.

Unfortunately, delays can occur if a replacement part is backordered.

Whilst the standard HP Limited Warranty generally provides for repair or replacement (at HP's discretion) rather than an automatic refund or new computer, you can still contact HP and ask whether your case can be escalated due to the extended repair delay. In some situations, HP may be able to offer alternative resolutions, but those decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.

If you purchased the computer with a credit card that offers purchase protection or an extended warranty, it may also be worth checking whether any additional benefits are available through your credit card issuer.

If you're comfortable sharing the model number of the desktop and the country/region where you purchased it (I assume the US), someone here may be able to offer more specific guidance on the available support options.

Kind Regards,
