Z840 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everyone!

I apologize if this is not in the correct forum.

I have an HP Z840 workstation and I just replaced the motherboard (original one had a damaged PCIe slot but no other problems).  I purchased the motherboard from the HP Amazon store and it is the correct matching model number to the original motherboard.

When I power the machine on the rear fans (the ones over the rear I/O ports) turn on full speed and nothing displays on screen.  There are no beeps or other indications of error.  After 10-20 seconds my keyboard will light up, but that is all the activity I can see.  No BIOS, nothing.  I have checked and rechecked all connection points and the system is in the same working configuration it was prior to the motherboard change.  Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.  System info below, please let me know if there is any more information I can provide.

HP Z840

OS: Windows 10 Pro

CPU: Intel Zeon 2630

RAM: 128 GB DDR (x4 Crucial 32gb sticks)

GPU: x1 Quadro M6000

Hi jayrad

My conclusion, if all connections from the power supply to the motherboard and other components are correct, is you may have a faulty motherboard.

Try a different power supply. Reseat the processor, apply thermal compound, then reseat the heatsink/fan. Reseat the memory and graphics card. Change the MB battery.

Carefully check all connections again.

The symptoms you are describing are very similar to a failed MB or faulty power supply.

Grzy
