🧠 What “No Disk Detected” Usually Means
Your HP desktop is likely showing this error because:
- The boot disk isn’t properly connected or has failed
- The BIOS boot order is misconfigured
- The disk’s boot sector is corrupted
- A recent update or power surge caused a firmware glitch
🛠️ Step-by-Step Fixes to Try
Check BIOS Boot Order
- Restart your PC and press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS
- Go to the Boot tab and make sure your hard drive is listed first
- Save changes and exit
Run HP Diagnostics
- Press Esc at startup, then F2 to open System Diagnostics
- Run the Hard Drive Test (Quick and Extensive)
- If the drive fails, it may need to be replaced
Disconnect External Devices
- Unplug all USB drives, CDs, and external storage
- Restart the PC—sometimes these confuse the boot process
Try a Hard Power Reset
- Turn off the PC and unplug it
