I have an HP Envy TE-01 Desktop. Windows update did a BIOS update, and then a firmware update. Since then, I seem to get no video output when the computer boots. I have no idea whether or not it is really booting, as I get nothing but a black screen.
I have tried using the Windows Key + B fix to get to the BIOS, but nothing happens (at least that I know of: black screen).
Any suggestions?

Hi @j3ph,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Experiencing no video output after a BIOS and firmware update can be concerning, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
- Check Physical Connections: Ensure that all cables connecting your monitor to your computer are securely plugged in. Sometimes cables can become loose during updates.
- Try Different Video Ports: If your computer has multiple video output ports (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA), try connecting your monitor to a different port to see if that resolves the issue.
- Test with Different Monitor: If possible, try connecting your computer to a different monitor to determine if the issue is with your monitor or the computer itself.
- Reset BIOS Settings: If you suspect that the BIOS update might have caused the issue, you can try resetting the BIOS settings to their default values. This can usually be done by removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard for a few minutes and then reinserting it. Make sure to consult your computer's manual for specific instructions on how to do this for your model.
- Perform a Power Cycle: Shut down your computer completely, disconnect the power cable, wait for a few minutes, and then reconnect the power cable and turn on the computer again. Sometimes, a power cycle can resolve issues related to firmware updates.
- Check for Hardware Issues: It's possible that the update coincidentally caused a hardware issue to manifest. Check for any signs of hardware failure such as unusual noises, overheating, or malfunctioning fans.
It's important to note that attempting to fix BIOS or firmware issues without proper knowledge can potentially cause further problems.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

The firmware update fried the motherboard, according to a computer repair shop. Will have the motherboard replaced. Not quite sure why this was possible with what seemed like a normal Windows update, but I will be very careful in the future with avoiding the Optional Updates.
