My laptop isn’t powering on

Hi @Mdan2016,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand the concern when the laptop does not power on at all. Let us first check whether this is related to the charger, power source, or system startup.

Please try the following steps carefully:

  1. Check the power outlet by plugging another device into the same outlet to confirm it is working properly.
  2. If possible, try the same HP charger on another compatible HP laptop to see whether the adapter works correctly.
  3. Also, if available, try a different compatible HP charger on your laptop to check whether the issue changes.

Next, please check the charging light near the charging port:

  • Do you see a white light
  • An orange/amber light
  • Or no light at all?

That information will help determine whether the laptop is receiving power.

I would also recommend trying a BIOS recovery/reset, as sometimes the system may fail to start properly due to BIOS corruption or a startup interruption.

BIOS Restore / Recovery

  1. Keep the charger connected to the laptop.
  2. Make sure the laptop is completely powered OFF.
  3. Press and hold the Windows + B keys together.
  4. While holding those keys, press the Power button once.
  5. Continue holding Windows + B until the BIOS Recovery screen appears.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions and click OK if prompted.

After the system restarts, please check whether the laptop powers on normally.

Please let us know:

  • What charging light do you see near the port
  • Whether the fan or keyboard lights come on at all
  • And whether the BIOS recovery screen appears

We’ll continue helping from there.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
