Hi @David2023a,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The blinking Num Lock and Caps Lock lights on an HP computer usually indicate a hardware issue with the keyboard. The specific pattern of blinks can provide more information about the problem. In your case, a 10-blink pattern suggests a keyboard controller error.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Restart the Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues. Shut down your computer, unplug the power cord, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in. Turn on the computer and check if the issue persists.
  • Check the Keyboard Connection: Ensure that the keyboard is securely connected to the computer. If you're using a wired keyboard, disconnect and reconnect it. If it's a wireless keyboard, make sure the batteries are charged and try re-establishing the connection.
  • Try Another Keyboard: If possible, connect a different keyboard to the computer and see if it works. This can help determine whether the issue is with the keyboard itself or the computer.
  • Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers: Outdated or corrupted keyboard drivers could be causing the problem. You can try updating or reinstalling the keyboard drivers. Go to the Device Manager, locate the keyboard, right-click on it, and choose to update or uninstall the driver. After that, restart the computer and let Windows reinstall the driver.
  • Perform a System Restore: If the issue started recently, you might consider using System Restore to revert your system to a point before the problem occurred. This can undo recent changes that might have led to the keyboard issue.
  • Run Hardware Diagnostics: Many HP computers come with built-in hardware diagnostics. You can access these diagnostics during the startup process. Look for an option like "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics" or similar. Run the keyboard tests to see if any issues are detected.
  • Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates: Ensure that your computer's BIOS/UEFI firmware is up to date. HP regularly releases updates that can address hardware compatibility and performance issues. Visit the HP support website, enter your computer model, and check for any available BIOS/UEFI updates.

Remember to back up important data before performing any major troubleshooting steps, especially if you're considering a system restore or BIOS update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
