When I applied the latest BIOS update for OMEN 30L Desktop - GT13-0014 (HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 87C3) It froze and then is failing to boot and goes into the Bios Recovery. I downloaded the bios on a separate computer and created the USB Bios recovery drive. I followed the instructions and it will not find the bios recovery files and keeps failing with the error unable to find the BIOS files. I have tried the Windows key + B and V and neither opens the BIOS menu. I also tried ESC key and that also did not work. I tried to download the older version of the BIOS. HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 87C3 but the pages goes into a loop and redirects to the software and drivers page without downloading the file. https://support.hp.com/us-en . It looks like it is using AMI bios so I am kind of at a loss at this time.

@masterblasterwi, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!
I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.
I understand you're facing a BIOS recovery issue after a failed update on your OMEN 30L GT13-0014. Let's walk through the steps to properly create and use a BIOS recovery USB drive for your system, which uses an AMI BIOS and ROM Family SSID 87C3.
Step-by-Step BIOS Recovery Instructions
Download the Correct BIOS Update File
HP’s BIOS update page for this model sometimes loops or fails to download. Use this direct link to access the correct BIOS file: Official HP® Support
If the page still loops, try using a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) or clear your cache and cookies.
Create a BIOS Recovery USB Drive
On a working Windows PC:
- Download and run the BIOS update file (e.g., sp157892.exe).
- When prompted, choose “Create Recovery USB” instead of installing the BIOS.
- Insert a FAT32-formatted USB drive (8–32GB recommended).
- The tool will copy the necessary BIOS recovery files to the USB.
Running the BIOS update tool on another PC will not flash that PC’s BIOS. It only prepares the recovery media.
Use the USB Recovery Drive on the OMEN 30L
- Power off the OMEN 30L completely.
- Insert the USB recovery drive into a rear USB port (avoid front ports).
- Press and hold the Windows key + V, then press the Power button.
- Continue holding Windows + V for 5–10 seconds until the BIOS recovery screen appears.
If Win+V doesn’t work, try Win+B or just power on with the USB inserted. Some OMEN desktops auto-detect the recovery drive.
Let the Recovery Process Complete
- The system may reboot several times.
- You may see a blank screen or flashing keyboard lights.
- Do not interrupt the process. It can take several minutes.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Ensure the USB is formatted as FAT32, not exFAT or NTFS.
- Use a USB 2.0 port if available.
- Try different USB sticks if the recovery fails.
- If recovery still fails, consider using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool to reinstall the OS and firmware. HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support

Unfortunately when I put the USB drive in and downloading sp157892.exe, the computer will read the USB for a couple of seconds and then doesn't read it any more. The screen is blank and does not appear to do anything.
I have a 16gb drive formatted as Fat32. I actually used a number of drives and all seem to do that same thing.
I have tried Windows+B and V neither seems to bring up any recovery window other then the notification that the Bios is corrupted and it will now attempt to recover the bios, it reboots then blank screen and no activity for at least 15 min or more. I have let it run with no luck. Not sure what to do.
