OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-224
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have recently been having memory issues when gaming and I've decided I want to upgrade my ram. So before getting a new ram stick I wanted to make sure that the other slot on my motherboard worked and when using the original ram stick, properly putting it into the port, it made 3 long 2 short beeps. To make sure I wasn't installing incorrectly I placed it back into it's initial slot which worked. Is there anything I can do? My warranty is expired but I also received a pre-damaged product so yikes.

@bowlnat2,

Please try this:

First:  Shutdown your desktop.

Then, unplug all other peripherals such as a docking Station, USB storage device(s), monitor(s), and printer(s), and leave only your keyboard and mouse connected.

Then, press and hold the PWR button until it beeps and turns off.

Repeat.

Then, shutdown your desktop and unplug the AC power supply from your desktop.

Next, press and hold the PWR button for 10 seconds.

Repeat.

Plug your desktop's AC power supply cable back in and reconnect your monitor.

Power-on your desktop, press Esc (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.

Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4-minute hardware check).

Kind Regards,

@bowlnat2,

Lest I forget: please use compressed ("canned") air to blow out your RAM slots. Use a magnifying glass to see if any of the RAM-slot pins are bent or broken/missing.

Kind Regards,
