HP Pavilion 595-p0074

I have a Tripp Lite 6 outlet Monitor Surge Protector Power strip that I use to power up my desktop, scanner, printer, & Moniter.

Just recently when I power the strip up the tower comes on without pushing the start button.  A blue screen comes up stating the Bios CMOS502 didn't start correctly and will restart.  The desktop restarts and everything works fine.  I can shutdown correctly.   How do I fix this??  Thank you

Hi @SueCats2

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Well, I would try the PC without the surge protector. I don't think this would cause this error. But it doesn't hurt to eliminate this variable.

Then check this HP Site  and the Desktop link at this site for 502 error remedies.

Newer HP PCs allow a BIOS recovery to fix various BIOS problems using a bootable USB stick.

Try this BIOS update for your Lincs MB, MB SSID 843B, at this HP Site. Download this BIOS update. Run the update in Windows.

Look, be patient during this BIOS update. Loss of power or prematurely shutting down the PC  during the BIOS update can corrupt the BIOS.

This BIOS update may also be doable outside of the operating system when deployed from a bootable USB flash drive since it is a 2023 BIOS update. This option would be good if the PC cannot POST.

Hi @SueCats2

Sounds good. Let the Forum know if the PC continues to function correctly.
