I have an HP laptop
Model 15-dy2193dx

I bought an upgraded ram chip - PC didn't start. Black screen. Lights are still on when plugging in and over on the side near HDMI and Type C slot when attempting to power up. I am assuming I don't have the right upgraded ram chip BUT when I put the old ones back in ..the ones that came installed, still no luck. I've taken them in and out multiple times, tested them separately. I tried all the restarting with the WIN+B (tried V as well)+power button.. with it plugged in. With it off, after disconnecting the battery and discharging the power..  I also realized that the fan is not engaging, I am getting no beeps nor am I getting any flashes on the caps lock key.. Everything was fine before I tried to put the new ram card in.. the only thing I have not tried yet is downloading the bios recovery to a USB and trying that out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have taken apart and put back together **bleep** near everything. ALL connections and ribbons are clean and in correctly too!

Hi @Mizzpocket77,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Laptop Model 15-dy2193dx not turning on after a RAM upgrade!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check RAM Compatibility: Ensure that the RAM you purchased is compatible with your laptop. Verify the specifications such as DDR generation, speed, and voltage against the laptop's requirements.

Reseat the RAM: Properly reseat the RAM modules. Make sure they are inserted fully and securely into the memory slots. Try switching the slots if there are multiple ones available.

Static Charge: Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if possible). Hold down the power button for approximately 15 seconds to discharge any static electricity that might be causing the issue.

Test Each RAM Stick Individually: If you have multiple RAM sticks, test each one individually in each slot to ensure one isn't defective.

BIOS Update: Ensure that your BIOS is updated to the latest version provided by HP, which might include support for new hardware configurations.

External Display: Try connecting your laptop to an external monitor to check if the display is causing issues.

Inspect for Physical Damage: Carefully inspect the RAM sticks and slots for any physical damage or dirt that might prevent proper contacts.

Power Cycle: Reassemble the laptop without any external peripherals connected. Power it up to see if it makes a difference.I hope this helps.
