PC restarting on its own

HP Elite 7500 Series MT
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am desperate. My PC restarts on its own all of a sudden while I am working, once or twice a day, even if in Windows Update I set those hours as working hours.

There is no error message. It restarts just like there were Windows updates, because then the screen says WORKING ON UPDATES, the percentage increases until it arrives at 100% and the PC starts with the normal screen and no error message.

I will list all I already have attempted.

Please help me, I am on a deadline and desperate about the waste of time this creates.

System is Windows 10Pro 1809 latest build 17763.316

 

- The HP check gives no errors, nor hardware nor software. Tests have been passed all the time. No hardware damage. CPU is fine

- Antivirus checks and antimalware (Malware bytes, windows antimalware) show no malware

- I thought it was overheating, we cleaned the PC and put new paste around the CPU, but it keeps restarting at random

- All the drivers are updated as per Driver Booster and the HP website and manual update on Windows

- I have done 2 different help sessions with Microsoft support, because I thought it was linked with Windows Update or the definition updates in Windows Defender.

We did system cleaning, DISM image check, SFC SCANNOW, clean start with msconfig, error check, to no avail. The problem is still there.

- I already tried to install Window Updates with WSUS but it says all necessary updates are there

- I updated Flash

- I cleaned the REgister with Wise Registry

- I followed all the tutorials on similar problems, to no avail.

- I think it might be connected with savings settings, because sometimes it restarts when I leave the PC on for 15 minutes or so on my coffee break

- also, it restarted twice when I performed Windows System Cleaning as an administrator, deleting all files in the list

 

Basically, I am desperate. What to do? The only two things left are

1) updating the BIOS  (AMI American Megatrends 8.21 10/20/2014  but I cannot find any updated BIOS

2) overwriting a clean Windows 10 installation over my files (but I can't now, I'm on a deadline)

 

Any advice for me? My HP is no longer under warranty and no updated writers are supplied, so I needed to rely on Driver Booster for that.

I can only offer some help on

2) overwriting a clean Windows 10 installation over my files (but I can't now, I'm on a deadline)

 

In that the W10 tool from Microsoft can install and save files in WINDOWS.OLD folder, so your work is not lost.

UnTICK/Check the SYSTEM FAILURE  -  AUTOMATIC RESTARTUnTICK/Check the SYSTEM FAILURE - AUTOMATIC RESTART

 

The disabling of Automatic Restart  DOES NOT solve the problem with the Faulty/Dodgy software, like a driver or summat, it only MASKS the fault.  But maybe that is what you want to finish off your work.

 

If in doubt please ask.

thanks for this. The HP support page is useless because this product is no longer supported. It does not even tell me about the new BIOS. I ran all the supports and tests, and they return no info available. Also the Support Assistant from HP does not say anything about updates and drvies

 

1) do you advise to install the new BIOS? My IT technician believes that systems should be left alone... But I do not agree... Your advice? In case, do I install it just clicking on the EXE, or is it better to have it on an USB keydrive?

2) I know my files are not lost but it would take a week to  reinstall all my tools and so on, so I can't do it now.

3) I put back the Automatically restart, and in doing so I realized that my system had no Paging available. So I changed the setting to Automatic paging allocation for all drives.

Do you think this might be the cause?

The HP page is where the BIOS is located.   HOWEVER W10 1809 is not supported.

 

I would not introduce another variable by just updating the BIOS.

 

A paging file is important, and it is used by Windows, so that may be a contributing factor to your problems.

 

Go for stability and finish your current work.  Then consider the BIOS update if the system has been stable.

Might be the new BIOS is not supported, if it is not included in my computer's update suggestions?

Still, there are no updates at all suggested for my model. Looks like they have abandoned it altogether.

The model came with the options for FreeDos or Windows 7 or 8.x,  and may be the manufacturers of the components have chosen not to provide drivers for W10 on a business decision, economically unviable.

 

So any drivers you are getting from 3 rd party sites may be the cause of your problems, and not directly connected to HP.

For what?

It had stopped for a while, so I thought it was because of the paging file. But no, here we are again.

 

I am pretty sure it is related with WIndows Defender Updates.

It restarted today and started updating, and when I turned it back on I went to check, the update from Defender was at 13.36, exactly when the PC restarted on its own.

Any advice? Of course, Troubleshooting doesn't detect anything.

 

It is pretty annoying as it is detracting a lot of time from my work (I am a work-at-home professional)

Ideas?

Anyone else with similar problems?

It just happened again today, both on my computer and on my partner's. At 20:59. And then Windows Defender said there was an update at 21:59 (Windows Defender's clock is one hour forward, I don't know why, fix it!)

 

The two computers are of different brands.
