This is an odd one for me.  This happens a few times a week.  There are no clear cut indications as to what's going on.  The PC will always boot up after I long press the power button and force it off, then turn it on normally.  I think what's happening is this:

  1. I shut down PC
  2. PC never fully powers down, light stays on
  3. Cannnot boot up without unplugging or forcing off then back on

Here's the log, the only error is not populated:

I don't know why ID14 error has no info to go along with it!  Strange!  Also I only began having these after a firmware update.  The PC worked fine for months before recent updates.  Not sure what's going on here.

Suggestions / tips?

Thanks!

Hi @mlw19mlw91,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It seems you are experiencing an issue where your PC is not fully shutting down, which could be related to several factors. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you might consider:

Check Power Settings:

  • Ensure that the power settings on your PC are configured correctly. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options, and check if any settings might be causing the computer to prevent full shutdown.

Fast Startup:

  • Disable Fast Startup, as it can sometimes cause shutdown issues. You can find this option under Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable > Uncheck "Turn on fast startup."

Driver Issues:

  • Ensure all your drivers are up to date, especially the chipset and power management drivers. You can visit HP's official website for the latest drivers specific to your model.

BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Sometimes, BIOS settings can prevent a system from shutting down properly. Consider updating your BIOS or UEFI to the latest version available from HP Support.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
