HP Pavilion a6803w
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have been dealing with this "page fault error caused by nvlddmkm.sys" since upgrading to Windows 10 (years ago). I have tried every suggested solutions; even the ones that did not pertain to my macchine, since then. I did learn that there was probably a problem with the memory used by certain graphics. Realizing that the motherboard graphic adapter used the PC's memory which is maxed out, I attempted to install a new graphics card with 2Mb of memory. It seems that the Microsoft Basic Adapter overrides all other adapters if the proper drivers aren't  installed. This Microsoft Basic Adapter cannot be disabled so that the new display adapter can "plug-n-play". I see two problems here. One is that this machine was never meant to be used pass two years and Windows 10 was developed for new equipment only. What should I replalce this boat anchor with? I leaning towards a Dell pc.

@jaysee --  Page fault error caused by nvlddmkm.sys

From a web-page: This VIDEO-TDR-FAILURE ( nvlddmkm .sys) error appeared on Windows 7 and Windows 8 in the previous days, which is always related to NVIDIA graphics card.

To me, this implies that you should access the NVIDIA web-site, to download/install a better device-driver.

True. It is the "default" device-driver, until a hardware-specific device-driver is installed.

True, but it is superseded, when the hardware-specific device-driver is installed into Windows.

Microsoft and HP tested many 2014-vintage computers when developing/testing Windows 10, in 2015. Of course, they could not test every pre-2014 computer. How old is your computer?

Since you asked on an HP discussion forum, many responses will say "buy HP".  🙂

I say "wait until early 2022, when computers with have Windows 11 preinstalled".
