I have the Pavilion also and having a problem. It is connected to a UPS but every now and again, it will not come on when pushing start button. I tried the reset but in both cases when it would not start, I had to unplug ALL the cables including the network cable from the back of the computer.  Then in both cases, it did start up. I have backed up all my data just in case but was wondering if you might know what might be the problem?

@MICKKAS,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • What is the exact model for your computer?
  • What is the operating system you are using?

Meanwhile, I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

It is old. The sticker on the side says Pavilion p6228p-b bundle. It has  NVidia Geoforce 9100 integrated graphics. Will try the BIOS update and let you know in a few minutes.

OK, I downloaded the HP Support Assistant and ran it to find my computer. It found it and when looking for updates, it asked about Windows version when it only showed Windows 7 and Vista. We are running the latest version of Windows 10 now. Any ideas?  I did try the windows update and there are none. It suggested going to device manager and updating drivers but not exactly sure which ones to update. What would you suggest?  I tried to do a screen print of device manage but not sure how to do it and attach.

@MICKKAS,

I recommend you run the power troubleshooter.

Here is how it is done.

Press ‘Win + I’ shortcut keys to open Windows Settings app.

Click on ‘Update & Security’, then go to the ‘Troubleshoot’ section from the left-side menu.

Scroll downwards a bit and click on the ‘Power’ option.

Click on ‘Run the Troubleshooter’. It will start detecting the problems and if it founds, go ahead fixing it.

If you continue facing the issue, then follow the below steps.

On your keyboard, press ‘Windows key + R’ and type ‘Powercfg.cpl’ in it.

Hit the ‘Enter’ key to open power options in the control panel.

From the left-hand side, click on ‘Choose what the power buttons do’.

Then, click on the link ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’.

From the bottom given power button options, uncheck the ‘Turn on fast startup’ option.

Click on ‘Save changes’ button.

If the issue persists, follow the below steps.

Go to the ‘Start’ menu and type ‘Control panel’ then hit the ‘Enter’ key.

From the top-right filter, choose ‘Large icons’ and navigate to the ‘Power Options’,

Click and open the ‘Power options’.

Select the power plan according to your requirement and click on ‘Change plan settings’.

Click on ‘Change advanced power settings’.

In the power options windows, click on the button ‘Restore plan defaults’.

Click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘OK’ button.
