HP Pavilion p6616f Desktop PC

@Paul_Tikkanen,

First of all, thank you for all your expertise!  I've used several of your posts to solve issues.  You are a great help to the community.

Do you know the highest model of AMD processor that works with a p6616f desktop?  I know it's a retired product so documentation is no longer on the HP site.  I've done some research and found the AMD Phenom II X6 1065T is supposedly compatible with the motherboard.

Any thoughts on the matter?  I'm looking to upgrade the processor and change from HDD to SSD then install Windows 10.

Do you see any issues upgrading to Windows 10 on that machine?

Thank you.

Hi:

Thank you for the compliment.  I'm glad that you find some of my answers of use to you.

I found this discussion and according to the information posted therein, I would agree that the AMD Phenom II X6 1065T should work.

I like to check this PC benchmarking database to see what other folks have installed in their PC, and unfortunately, the report for one model that has the same motherboard only shows folks that have the processor that came with the PC.

A far as upgrading to W10...I'm afraid you are a day late and a dollar short.

Just last month, Microsoft decided to quit allowing PCs to get the free upgrade to W10 that was supposed to end in July of 2016.

Since your PC is pretty outdated, I would not recommend spending $100 on a W10 license and product key.
