I have an older Pavilion P7-1500t from mid 2012. I'm looking to install a GeForce GTX 1050, although I've heard that older HPs don't support graphics cards that require UEFI firmware. does the P7-1500t have a BIOS or UEFI firmware?

Your PC has a UEFI BIOS so you can use a GTX 1050.
You will need to prep the BIOS before installing the new card by disabling Secure Boot and enabling Legacy Boot in the UEFI Security Settings.
Uninstall the current graphics drivers before installing the new card.
Your power supply just meets the minimum recommended for this graphics card. You may be limited to single fan models.
The single fan models are dual slot and around six inches in length.
