I have tried the community previously but things were not sorted and/or I misunderstood the method of working etc..
I have a pavilllion desktop pc 550-130na which I am trying to set back to factory set up. I used the HP programme which was supposed to re-set the computer back to factory settings. I have got as far as getting the statement Recovery preparation is complete This instructs me to press continue, to allow the computer to start the recovery - however, each time I press Continue; the whole process starts again. How on earth can I overcome this? If i turn the pc off - I have to go through the whole process again.

Hi,
Can you use Windows now? It sounds like the HP: Recovery partition or your external recovery media are messed up. I don't see a Recovery media purchase option or a HP Cloud recovery option for your PC (Link).
You can try a reset if you can run Windows. You will lose some installed programs but can keep personal data. I would back up data anyway before resetting the PC.
Go to Start, Settings, Update and Recovery, Recovery, Reset this PC.
You can do a clean W10 install if you can't run Windows.
You can create W10 installation media on a different PC here (Link).

hi
just try this :
Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7)
not compatible use :
https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/software-download/windows10
then retrieve the drivers and software available here:
if the computer still can not be reinstalled try the tests, and give the result:

Thank you very much Grzwacz - I was unable to HP Cloud option you mentioned, nor was I able to get access to the Start settings etc.. however your suggestion to us the W10 installation media via a download from another computer, did work - beautifully. Thank you very much for your help.
I would also like to thank Pormethee for all the suggestions made. I did try some of them, without success. I also did the tests on the computer system etc. which all past. But I still was unable to get the pc to boot up. Many thanks for your help.
Best wishes
John

Hello
sorry but can you specify if the computer is functional now?
I indicated exactly the same in the first answer as @Grzwacz
namely the cloud, and using the media by microsoft!
I did not have time to mention it, I had to check, and it told me that cloud did not recognize the computer
Only you have marked the second answer, but then you say:
" I did try some of them, without success. I also did the tests on the computer system etc. which all past. But I still was unable to get the pc to boot up. "
If the solution is marked as accepted it tells us that the problem must be fixed.
However, if this is not resolved, it can lead to confusion!
We can therefore no longer answer ...
