@8CC0351M9R, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
If your HP PC has become slow and you're looking to format the C: drive and reinstall Windows, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you do that safely and effectively.
🛠️ Option 1: Reset This PC (Recommended for Most Users)
This method reinstalls Windows without needing a USB drive and can optionally remove all files.
Steps:
- Click Start > Settings > System > Recovery.
- Under Recovery options, click Reset PC.
- Choose:
- Keep my files – reinstalls Windows but keeps personal files.
- Remove everything – formats the C: drive and reinstalls Windows.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Option 2: Clean Installation Using USB (Advanced)
If you prefer a full format and clean install using a bootable USB:
What You’ll Need:
- A USB drive (8GB or more)
- Another working PC to create the installer
Steps:
- Go to the Microsoft Media Creation Tool page and download the tool.
- Run it and choose Create installation media.
- Insert the USB into your HP PC and restart.
- Press Esc or F9 during boot to open the Boot Menu.
- Select the USB drive and follow the Windows setup.
- When prompted, choose Custom: Install Windows only and delete the C: partition to format it.
After Installation
- Install HP drivers via HP Support Assistant. HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
- Run Windows Update to get the latest patches and drivers.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
