Hello Andrea

Thanks for the info.

What is the status of the power supply LED at the back of the tower when the PC will not  turn on?

It should be a solid green. It appears the power supply may intermittently not be providing enough power to the system. If this LED is flashing green or not green then it needs to be replaced.

Have you tried a different AC power supply cable?  You could also try a different video cable connection just to eliminate that as a possible cause.

It appears the power switch is working since you do get some power to the PC (fans). Can you hear the HDD initialize or any optical drive activity when the PC will not start? Do any motherboard LED's come on when the PC does not start?

You have a hardware problem. I would start by changing the power supply. If you are not comfortable working with components then a local tech would be the way to go. Your PC is close to six years old. Components start to fail at that point.

Hello Andrea

That is a strange symptom.

Check the power supply LED at the back of the tower before unplugging the AC power from the system the next time this happens. It (the LED) should be a solid green.

So you disconnect the power supply cord from the wall AC outlet. Wait, and then reconnect, depress the power on button and the PC will start correctly? What happens when you reboot the PC using the Windows Restart option or when you wake the PC from sleep?

HP released this PC for sale in 2011.  A number of problem components could cause this behavior:

1. Power Supply

2. Power switch

3. Possible faulty power cord. Try a different power cord.

4. Voltage problem on the motherboard.

This type of problem is hard to diagnose using a forum.

I would have a local tech check it out.

When I restart it is fine.  The problem is when I completely do a shut down.  I press the power button, it lights blue, I can hear the fan and all working but the yellow light for the HD will not light and the computer will not start.  That is when I need to remove the power cord and put it back in and it works fine then.  TY
