I recently purchased a used 500-424 desktop. When I turn it on, there is a prompt for a power on password. I contacted the seller and they say the computer has not worked in months (I found a bad power supply) and they dont recall the password. I replaced the harddrive and plan on installing a new OS. I removed the cmos battery for 120 minutes, tried the cmos reset jumper, and it still asks for a password. Anyone have any ideas? I just need to hit the bios so I can install a new OS.

Hi:
I am looking at the picture of the motherboard below...

There are two jumpers.
One clears the CMOS and one clears the P/W.
Usually you have to shut down and unplug the PC.
Move the P/W jumper over one pin, plug in and turn on the PC.
The P/W should now be cleared.
Then shut down, unplug the PC and replace the P/W jumper to its original position.
