Hi @Ironfish,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's possible that the power supply is faulty, but there could be other issues as well. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot.
- Check power connections: Ensure that all power connections to the motherboard and components are secure. Sometimes a loose connection can prevent the system from starting.
- Test the power button: Sometimes the power button itself can become faulty. You can try shorting the power switch pins on the motherboard with a screwdriver to see if the system starts. If it does, then the power button might need to be replaced.
- Check for signs of life: Look for any LEDs or fans that might indicate power is reaching the system. If there are none, it could indeed be a power supply issue.
- Test the power supply: If you have a multimeter, you can test the power supply to see if it's providing the correct voltages. Be extremely careful when working with electrical components.
- Inspect for physical damage: Sometimes components can fail due to physical damage. Check for any burnt smells or visual signs of damage on the motherboard or other components.
- Try a different power outlet: Sometimes the outlet itself might be the issue. Try plugging the computer into a different outlet or surge protector.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
