Compaq Presario SR 1000 desktop

The green on/off light continues to flash all the time and I cannot turn the computer on or off by holding to switch in. I have taken the side panel off and cleaned the interior without success. Any advice as to what I can try next would be appreciated.

Dear PDP1001, try the suggestions offered here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffodNwP7d2U

Also based on other web sources, the flashing green light points to a defective power supply.

But see if the YouTube fix works for you!

Had another go with the hairdryer today and this time it worked. Whether it was due to the heat or the fact the computer was turned off for some time I cannot be sure but the computer is working again.
