Hi @Amberdawn8475,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your PC screen is black and there are 3 long, 3 short beeps.

On HP computers, 3 long and 3 short beeps indicate a potential graphics/video hardware failure or an issue with the RAM (memory). This typically means the computer's embedded controller has timed out while trying to initialise the display.

Troubleshoot the issue using the following step-by-step process:

1. Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Remove all external devices (mouse, keyboard, USB drives).

  • Unplug the power cord (and remove the battery if it's a laptop with a removable battery).

  • Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to drain residual power.

  • Reconnect the power and try turning the PC back on.

2. Check and Reseat the RAM:

  • Unplug the computer from the power source completely.

  • Locate the memory/RAM compartment (usually on the bottom for laptops or by removing the side panel on desktops).

  • Remove the RAM sticks and gently clean the metal contacts using a clean microfiber cloth or a pencil eraser.

  • Firmly re-insert the RAM until it clicks into place. If you have multiple sticks, test them one at a time to determine if a specific stick is faulty.

3. Test External Displays (Laptops Only):

  • If you are using a laptop, connect an external monitor or TV using an HDMI or DisplayPort cable.

  • If the screen displays on the external monitor, your laptop screen panel may need repair.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
