Hi, i have the following problem:

I want to enable Secure Boot, which is supported by my PC, but when i go into BIOS, the option is greyed out and permanently deactivated. How can i activate it?

Thank you in advance!

Hi:

Before you tinker with any of the BIOS settings, make sure that Windows is installed in UEFI mode.

To check if Windows is installed in UEFI mode, do the following:

Click on the search icon on the Windows taskbar.

Type: System Information

The System information app should show up.

Run the app and look for the BIOS Mode line about 1/4 of the way down on the report.

The BIOS mode line should be UEFI in order to enable secure boot.

See this link for how to enable secure boot if the BIOS mode is UEFI.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes, the BIOS is in UEFI mode. I have already followed every tutorial i found. The one you sent me didnt work either: it talks about "Secure Boot Configuration" in the "Security Menu" in BIOS, which doesnt exist on my PC (of course there is a security menu in BIOS, but theres nothing about secure boot in there). The only thing in the BIOS Menus that is related to Secure Boot is the activate/deactivate button. Its deactivated and greyed out.

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know what the problem could be.

I don't even know how HP installed W11 on your PC with secure boot disabled.

You won't get the next update to W11 (25H2) next month unless you enable secure boot or use one of the W11 hardware check bypass methods to upgrade.

In order to disable/enable secure boot there should be a setting to do so, and also to clear secure boot keys or load the HP factory default keys.

I don't know if setting the BIOS to its defaults, saving the setting and restarting the PC would make a difference but that would be the only other suggestion I can offer.

Alright, i understand. As far as i know, W11 doesnt check if Secure Boot is enabled, it just checks if your system is capable of enabling and using it. But thats just what ive read so far.

Also:

Can you tell me, can there even be negatives to resetting BIOS to its defaults? If not, i would try that. Ive never changed anything there except for setting a password for BIOS configuration and Booting the PC.
