Hi @Notworkingkaren,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Laptop 15-dy2132wm is stuck at the HP logo with a spinning ball or "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen, it usually indicates a boot failure or corrupted system files. Here's how to troubleshoot it:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Power off the laptop completely.
  2. Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Turn it back on and see if it boots normally.

2. Enter Recovery Mode

If it still hangs:

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press F11 repeatedly until you see the Recovery screen.
  3. Choose:
    • Advanced Options > Startup Repair
    • If that fails, try System Restore (if restore points exist)

3. Reset BIOS (if F11 doesn’t work)

  1. Power off the laptop
  2. Press Esc repeatedly on startup to enter the Startup Menu
  3. Press F10 to enter BIOS
  4. In BIOS, press F9 to load defaults → then F10 to save and exit

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
