When i start my laptop it goes into the preparing automatic repair screen and then it doesn’t go into the into automatic repair, but instead it goes into the normal loading screen and it just gets stuck in that screen and never fully loads. Does anyone have an idea and a solution?

OS is windows 11 and i got stuck in the loop when i tried to do a force shutdown on my laptop cause it was frozen and I couldn’t move anything.

Hi @Dagi71,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact model number of your HP laptop.
  • If you see any error codes or messages on the screen besides “Preparing Automatic Repair.”
  • Whether you have important files on the device that you need to recover urgently.

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

 Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Power off the laptop completely.
  2. Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  3. Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect only the power adapter and try to restart.

 Boot into Advanced Startup Options

  1. Turn on the laptop and as soon as the HP logo appears, press F11 repeatedly.
  2. This should open the Windows Recovery Environment.
  3. From here, try Startup Repair or System Restore if available.

 Check Safe Mode

  1. In the Recovery Environment, go to Advanced Options > Startup Settings.
  2. Select Enable Safe Mode.
  3. If the laptop boots into Safe Mode, you can uninstall recent updates or drivers that may have caused the issue.

 Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press Esc repeatedly while turning it back on.
  3. Select F2 – System Diagnostics.
  4. Run a quick test on the hard drive and memory to rule out hardware issues.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may point to a corrupted system file or a hardware-related problem. In that case, we can guide you through performing a system recovery.

I hope this helps.

Hello @Deep_World

The detail that you wanted to ask:

I dont really know where to find the exact model number so i have this attach of my laptop info

IMG_1156.jpeg

as for you second question, I only see a black screen with the Hp logo and the words “preparing automatic repair” and after a while it gives me this screen

IMG_1154.jpeg

and then it goes back to normal loading screen and gets stuck(sometimes it goes back to the preparing automatic repair screen). I do have some files on there that is like semi urgent. I use this laptop for school. I’ve tried the troubleshooting steps that you have recommended me all of them didn’t work. The Hard reset just puts me to either p a r screen or the normal loading screen and gets stuck again on the loop. I tried going into the windows recovery environment, but it just says “please wait” and after a while it just puts me back to the normal loading screen. I went to systems diagnostics and did a quick test on the hard drives and memory(i also did a test on every possible thing that i could do a test on diagnostics) and it all passed. I have absolutely no idea on whats wrong with it. If you have any way that could fix this without me having to buy another laptop that would be fantastic.

Thank you

Hi @Dagi71,

Thanks for your response.

Your laptop is stuck in a repair loop likely due to corrupted system files. The immediate next step is to create a Windows recovery USB on another PC, use it to back up your urgent files, and then attempt Startup Repair or System Restore

Backup Your Files First

  • Since the built-in recovery environment is looping, you’ll need a bootable USB:
    • On another PC, download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft’s official site.
    • Create a bootable USB drive.
    • Insert it into your HP laptop, power on, and press Esc → F9 to select the USB as the boot device.
  • Choose Repair your computer → Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Repair.
