Stuck on startup repair?

Hello! 

Its my first time posting here so I apologize for any mistakes. I'm having a slight issue with my PC while trying to update it. I was updating to the latest update and I was also updating the optional ones too. I rested my PC and it came up to startup repair. I was trying to find the option to reset my computer in the advance options but it didn't have it there. I tried the other features but they either didn't work or so error came up. I don't know what to do. I was thinking about reinstalling windows 10 but I don't want to lose any data on it. What should I do?

It's a GOOD THING that you did NOT do a reset -- as that can remove EVERYTHING from the PC in the process.  I continue to be mystified as to why folks think a reset is a miracle cure when in many cases, it causes more problems than if fixes.

 

A recent serious issue with Windows 10 is that MS is pushing out both mandatory and optional updates, so you see both in Windows Update.  Then, the mandatory update starts and you see the progress in the Window.  But, if you select the Optional Update before the mandatory update prompts for a restart, that can corrupt Windows Update because you then force a reboot of the PC before it is finished with the mandatory update.  My guess is this is what happened to you -- and this is really bad news!

 

First thing you need to do is see if you can restart in Safe mode -- by doing these steps: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2304-boot-into-safe-mode-windows-10-a.html

If you don't know how to start using Advanced Startup Options, then read this: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-boot-advanced-startup-options-windows-10-a.html

Then, follow these steps to reset Windows Update: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/24742-reset-windows-update-windows-10-a.html

If these work, when you finally reboot, you should then be able to login to a working Windows desktop.
