I get the impression that not too many people have HP Sure Start when they switch on but I have and a couple of days ago it just would not accept the password that I have used for years. I phoned HP support and they asked me to keep pushing F10 when I switched on to access boot settings but this would not work - still just got the SS screen asking for password. Support told me I would need a new motherboard which would cost hundreds in labour as well as the board.
This seemed like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut so I decided to think what could have possibly happened and I recalled that there have been a few Windows "upgrades" recently and wondered if they could have affected anything.
I then tried entering my Windows password on the SS screen and to my amazement and delight, it booted up as normal and all is going as normal as long as I enter my windows password in the SS password field. I have just signed up to HP community today to make this post in the hope that I might be able to help someone else who might be feeling just as depressed as I was until I stumbled upon this very easy solution.
