I found my parents old windows xp computer in my basement and overtime wanted to turn it on. But as of today when I turned it on for the first time since probably early or late 2000s, I would turn on the monitor and tower only to hear a couple beeps and the screen to display “monitor going to sleep” I tried again a couple times fixing any loose cables but still black. After unplugging it and leaving it for a couple minutes I plugged it back again and tried to turn it on only for the tower to turn on for a second before turning off.

Thank you for the suggestion I had my partner take a look and we took of the tower plate and the whole motherboard and everything else inside is covered in dust and he came to the conclusion that the computer is shutting off for safety reasons because of how much dust buildup and possible overheating

Hi @Vixxen
My pleasure.
I am not getting notifications as expected. This is why my response is late.
Yes, internal dust and grime buildup will cause problems.
Did the PC startup and run okay after cleaning the internals?
