I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to request assistance regarding an issue with my HP USB pendrive, which is not formatting properly.

Issue Details:

  • Problem: The USB drive is not formatting correctly. Despite multiple attempts, I am unable to format it using Windows or third-party formatting tools.

  • Error Message (if any): (Include any error messages, if applicable)

  • Steps Taken So Far: I have tried the following methods to resolve the issue:

    1. Used Windows Disk Management tool to format the drive.

    2. Tried using third-party tools like (list the tools if you've used any).

    3. Connected the drive to different USB ports and computers to rule out hardware issues.

Despite these efforts, I am unable to use the USB drive for storage.

Additional Information:

  • The drive was functioning normally before but has recently encountered issues.

  • It is still recognized by the computer, but I cannot access or format it.

I would appreciate any advice or troubleshooting steps you can offer to resolve this issue. If the drive is defective, please advise on the warranty or replacement process.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Trinish

@ComputerBrain, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding USB Pendrive Not Formatting!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

When a USB drive is not formatting properly, it could be due to various issues such as file system errors, hardware faults, or even malware. Here are some recommended steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Preliminary Checks

  1. Check USB on Another Computer: Plug the USB drive into a different computer to ensure that the problem isn’t specific to one machine.
  2. Backup Data: Before attempting any fixes, ensure you have backed up any important data on the USB drive if accessible.

Troubleshooting Steps

Use Disk Management in Windows:

  • Press Win + R, type diskmgmt.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate your USB drive, right-click on it, and choose "Format."
  • Ensure the file system is set to either FAT32 or NTFS.

Command Prompt Method:

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Type diskpart and press Enter.
  • Type list disk to see all connected drives.
  • Identify your USB drive by its size. Type select disk X (replace X with your USB disk number).
  • Type clean to remove all partitions.
  • Type create partition primary.
  • Type format fs=ntfs (or format fs=fat32) and press Enter.

Use HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool:

  • Download and install the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool.
  • Run the tool with administrator privileges.
  • Select the USB drive from the list and choose the desired file system (FAT32 or NTFS).
  • Click "Start" to begin formatting.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
