Hello, I'm back Paul!

I've made some progress, hopefully? I tried to fix the Omen30L for hours yesterday. This PC is appropriately named by the way) LOL. When I conversed with other tech support people, they advised me to take it to repair shop because I could not get a response from the operating system, and they didn't want to risk damaging my computer. I've gone this route before (way too many times) and I really can't afford to spend the time and money involved with leaving a computer at a repair shop. There must be a way to resolve this conundrum, and I'm determined to find the solution!

This morning when I was packing up the HP computer to have it repaired, I noticed that the HDMI cord was loose. After I plugged it back in, then I pressed ESC while the computer was booting up. "Lo and behold" the Windows 11 diagnostic tools popped up!

Suddenly I had all these repair choices, but I was uncertain about the best route. I chose to restore from 8/20/24. Apparently, that was the wrong answer. Does that mean I deleted all the data from this week? Next, I rebooted again using the same steps but currently I am inside the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. I remember reading on your site that it is recommended to use this tool.

Would you please walk me through the steps for restoration using one of the two tools mentioned here? One a personal note, I want to thank you for your patience with me. I sensed your frustration in the last couple of messages, but I can't thank you enough for your perseverance and continued support.

Please respond with directions at your earliest possible convenience.

With appreciation,

Judy

Hi, Judy:

As I had posted the other day, if you need to recover data from the PC use the Windows media creation tool to make a bootable installation flash drive.

Using another PC, make a bootable USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool from the link below (2nd option).

Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)

Boot from the installation media.  To do that, have the flash drive in the PC.

Turn on or restart the PC.

Immediately tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu and from that, select the USB flash drive you created with the media creation tool and press the enter key.

The PC should boot from the installation media, and when you get past the Windows Install Now screen, you will be asked 'Where do you want to install Windows.'

Install Windows over the existing Windows partition and it will create a Windows.old folder.

After Windows has completed installing, you can explore the Windows.old folder, find your old user profile and copy and paste the file folders from your old user profile to a USB portable hard drive.

Sorry but I can't really help you any more than I already have.

Good luck, hopefully all will go well for you.

Paul
